History of the YWCA

The York Woods Community Association was first incorporated in Illinois on March 29, 1963 and is mandated by the original 1962 covenants of property ownership in York Woods. Paul Butler was the first President of the Association, serving from 1963 to 1965. York Woods is bounded by 22nd Street on the north, Oak Brook Road (31st Street) on the south, the I-294 Expressway on the east and York Road on the west. It consists of 259 parcels bound as Members to the Association through a declaration of protective covenants, and 25 additional parcels along York Road, Oak Brook Road and Hunt Club Lane, added as associate members to accomplish geographic inclusion.

After the construction of the Drake Office Plaza, Drake Oak Brook, Inc. subdivided its remaining property into 20 lots that were added to the Association's protective covenants on September 17, 1982. This was the last major subdivision in the York Woods community.
